I did not sleep again last night. I try, but I toss and turn until I can’t stand it anymore. Then I get up, and go downstairs to sit in the recliner. What is wrong with me?
Busy Lives = Exhaustion and Little to No Sleep
Does the scenario above sound familiar to you? If so, then you’re not alone. As women, we lead very busy lives. We go to school, we raise our children, we hold down jobs, and we have husbands, parents, and other relatives and friends who demand our attention. We cram so much into our day that by the end of it, we are exhausted because we are only getting a few hours of sleep or none at all. Oh…and let’s not forget, many women after a certain age, don’t sleep well either (but that’s a whole other topic for discussion at a later date.)
I think as women, we tend to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders. That’s not to say that men don’t, but when I look over at my blissfully asleep husband, I am pretty sure that he just lets the worries of the day roll right off his shoulders. Oh I how wish I could do the same!
Talk to Him because He Listens
The best advice I ever received from my mom was, “When you’re tired, you’ll sleep.” I try to remember those words, but there are some nights when I am up and can’t get any rest. It is during these moments, that I use the time to meditate and talk to God. I know he is listening.
By talking to Him, I have the opportunity to get those worrisome thoughts out of my head, and onto His plate. I know that He has the capacity to deal with them, as Matthew 11:28-30 says,
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
During these late hours, after I have unloaded my burdens, I often wonder how many other women are up, and doing the same. I can’t imagine, but the number must be staggering. As I finally drift off, I make a promise to myself that tomorrow I will do this a bit sooner so I can sleep in my own bed instead of the recliner.
So for all of you who are having trouble falling sleep, let the words below remind you what to do in order to not have another sleepless night. Find comfort in the fact that He is listening, and will ease your burden so you can get the rest you need.
Before you go to bed, give your troubles to GOD. He will be up all night anyway.” ~ Think Positive Words
