It Is Finished

It’s Good Friday today, and do you know why it’s Good Friday? Today we remember the good gift God gave us through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.

He was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities, chastised for our peace, and by his stripes we are healed.  God laid the iniquity of us all upon Him.  He was oppressed and afflicted, led like a lamb to the slaughter.  He was cut off, stricken, and killed for the transgressions of the world.

And as Jesus hung there on that tree, numbered with the transgressors and bearing the sins of many, He made intercession for us:  “Father, forgive them,” He cried, “For they know not what they do!” Then as the sky began to grow dark, He said three of the most powerful words ever spoken, and they’re still echoing through the ages:

IT . . . IS . . . FINISHED!

When Cain killed Abel, God told him, “your brother’s blood cries out to me,” and Hebrews tells us that the blood of Christ “speaks a better word then the blood of Abel.” (Hebrews 12:24). Do you know what the blood of Christ says to this day and forevermore?

IT . . . IS . . . FINISHED!

The emptiness you’ve felt all you life? In the name of Jesus, IT IS FINISHED!

The sin you’re struggling with? In the name of Jesus, IT IS FINISHED!

Depression and self-deprecation? In the name of Jesus, IT IS FINISHED!

Sickness and Disease? In the name of Jesus, IT IS FINISHED!

Death and Hell? Done, over, and you guessed it: FINISHED!

Good Friday isn’t about remembering the death of our savior; it’s about celebrating the defeat of the enemies of God: Satan, sin and death.  They have no power over you because the blood of Christ continues to shout through the eons: “It is finished, It is FINISHED, IT IS FINISHED!

Revelations 12:11 says that we overcome the enemy by the blood of Lamb and the word of our testimony.  So let me ask you dearly beloved, what is the blood of Jesus shouting FINISHED over in your life?

Come on stand up and testify of His goodness!
