Recently, when I was driving to work, I had to ask myself this question: “Am I too busy for God?”
When I pondered on this, I began to realize I haven’t had any genuine time with the Lord. I thought about how I made time for work, my friends, going to the gym, watching shows on Netflix, and so many other things, but yet I had neglected God.
When I realized the shift in my priorities my heart broke. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s ok to work, hang out with friends and do other leisure activities, but these things mean nothing if we are not tuned in with God. I find myself drained on most days due to the busy schedule I gave myself, and when I do have time to spend with God, I say, “Oh, I’ll wake up tomorrow and do it then.
It became so bad I reached the point when I offered God 30 second prayers and they were only for when I woke up, ate, and went to bed. Oh, and let me not forget when I had a need I’d asked him to fulfill it and then would go about my day. My prayer life changed drastically. I had little to no patience for anything and my heart became so filthy because I had replaced the one and true God with a lot of little “gods” that brought no satisfaction to my life.
God desires such an intimate relationship with us, that if we would just stop and sit before him long enough we would find there is so much peace in his presence. The things that were a bother before seems to wither away because with him there’s joy and happiness.
But how would we know all of this if we’re too busy for him?
This was a major awakening for me…I’ve learned that I can do a lot of good things in my life, but what does it all mean if those things become more important in my life than God?
So if you, like me, struggle with being too busy for God, I want to encourage you to open your schedule and make time for him! Set aside time in the morning, or the evening to really get quiet before God. Talk to him all throughout your day. Include him in everything. Yes, he care so much for you!
Let’s be honest, he is the reason we are here. It is him and only him who gives us life, yet we must not get so consumed with this life that we forget about him. Starting today, let’s get back to our true love!! As brothers and sisters in Christ, it’s time to draw close to God and he will draw close to us as outlined in James 4:8. Let’s stop forgetting about him because he won’t ever forget about us.

After years of struggling with a lack of identity, low self-esteem, and brushing off the thought of ever wanting to live for God, Keyonna gave her life back to the Lord at the tender age of 21. Upon surrendering her life to the Lord, the passion to share his God’s goodness could not be contained within her. These desires lead Keyonna to start her women’s ministry, “Women after God’s Heart.” Keyonna’s deepest desire is to share God with all of the women, who, like her, had known, lost their way and need to find their way back to their first love.
