Featured Post: Guarding Our Eyes (Part II)

Read part one here.

This is probably the number one complaint I hear from people, they want to know how to hear from God. If we want to experience all God has for us and want to know Him and recognize His voice, we have to do as He says and keep our eyes, our hearts, and our minds pure.

The man who says, ‘I know him,’ but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.”

           – 1 John 2:4-6

The popular phrase “What Would Jesus Do” is what we should apply to everything we do. Would Jesus watch the garbage we watch for entertainment today? Would Jesus read the magazines and books we find so entertaining? If we want to grow and hear His voice, and receive the fullness of the life that Jesus died to give us, we have to guard our eyes, our minds, and our hearts.

On that day I swore to them that I would bring them out of Egypt into a land I had searched out for them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most beautiful of all lands. And I said to them, “Each of you, get rid of the vile images you have set your eyes on, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.” “But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me; they did not get rid of the vile images they had set their eyes on, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. So I said I would pour out my wrath on them and spend my anger against them in Egypt.
– Ezekiel 20:6-8

I encourage you to lay down whatever God shows you is hindering you from growing closer to Him. Romans 14:23 in the Amplified Bible says that whatever doesn’t originate and proceed from faith is sin, meaning that whatever is done without a conviction of its approval by God is sinful. If we don’t have God’s approval on something we should lay it down. The more we lay down, the more we receive, so the benefits are definitely in our favor. My prayer is that nothing would hinder us from grow closer to God each and every day.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
