Are Your Desires Bringing You Down?

Many individuals live unrighteous either because they are unaware of it or because they found a righteous lifestyle too hard to maintain. I believe the main reason we fall back into unrighteous habits is because of our undying desire to perform ungodly acts.
In order to become righteous we must love what God loves and hate what God hates. We have to desire what He desires and shun what He doesn’t. Righteousness means that even if there wasn’t a hell, you would hate the wickedness simply because it isn’t right. Until you truly and whole-heartedly hate the unrighteous habits you have, you’ll find yourself gravitating toward them. People are naturally inclined to do what they desire, so make sure you don’t have desires for the wrong things.
If you’ve tried to live a Godly lifestyle and failed don’t be dismayed. Proverbs says a righteous person falls seven times, but what makes them righteous is that they continue to get up and try again. God knows you aren’t perfect. It is due to your imperfection that He forgives you.
My friend, “hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life” (Proverbs 4:13). Be firm in God’s word. Be like the tree planted by the water that cannot be moved. Be the house that is built upon the solid rock. Don’t sway because of your bad desires. Don’t let your unrighteous habits prohibit you from walking into the calling God has for you.
James 4:7 says resist the devil and he will flee. You don’t have to fight nor do you have to speak in tongues. The bible says “resist”. I urge you to “resist” those evil desires. If you feel inclined to do it—don’t. And as the word reads: it will flee. When you pray, ask God to help you hate what He hates and desire what He desires. Ask Him to help you walk on the path of righteousness.

Great message! The more I draw near to God the more my desires change. Once we learn His desires are truly for our own good, we'll want to follow His ways.
    Blessings:)

Thank you Amanda! Yes! The Bible says if you draw close to God He'll draw close to you. As we become closer to Him and develop a relationship with Him we grow in righteousness.
