Weekly Encouragement

Acknowledge Him

Have you ever had times in your life where you felt like you were trying to tackle a giant and instantly felt defeated? Whether it’s on the job, finances, martial or family issues, we all have faced those giants that seemingly come out of nowhere, and are difficult to get passed.

Recently, I was working on my giant at the time, a large project, and I felt it was insurmountable. I thought to myself, “There is no way I can get this accomplished, in a short period of time and limited funds.” I dwelled negatively on this for a few hours and started to sink and accept defeat. Later than evening before bed, I read a devotional and the scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct your path.” After reading the passage, it was almost as if a light bulb went off in my brain, and I had an “Aha” moment. I began to seek God, and ask for His guidance on this project as I knew within my strength I could not complete it. After pouring my heart out to God, I giggled shortly after because Proverbs 3:5-6 is one of my favorite scriptures, but it didn’t even come to mind while I was facing this giant.

The next morning I completed the project and defeated my giant. It was better than I could have imagined. Why? Because I stepped back, acknowledged God, and by Faith knew that only He could help me.

Sometimes, we allow our circumstances to have control over our lives. We accept it, and move on never really including God in our plans. We try to fix things on our own, and then when we get tired of trying we ask God for help. I am guilty of this. How beautiful would it be to seek Him first instead of making Him the last resort?  God doesn’t take away all our problems, but He will also be there with us providing us with wisdom to make it through. So even in my situation, God didn’t come rescue me instantly because He saw me struggling and frustrated.  He let me get to the point when I acknowledge Him and gave Him complete control over my situation. He is Faithful!

Great things happen when we acknowledge God first!

What giants are you currently facing? In what areas are you ready to throw in the towel? Whatever it is, I want to encourage you to acknowledge God and seek Him first and give Him complete control over your life and circumstances. This isn’t some magic formula to remove all of your issues but this type of acknowledgement happens when we add Faith to the mix. When we truly believe, and depend only on God (and not on our own abilities) can we truly experience freedom in all areas.

Acknowledge Him first and you will be amazed at what He can do for you.
